HISTORY

Wembrook Builders Ltd is managed by brothers John, Tom, Paul and Tim Gudgeon. They are the fourth generation of builders in the Gudgeon family. Wembrook was established in 1980 by John and Tom with work consisting of small house repairs and alterations. As the business grew Paul and Tim joined bringing expertise in plumbing and substructure.

By this time Wembrook had firmly established itself as a high quality construction firm capable of building extensions and new builds. Over the years Wembrook has endured through both good times and challenging times. A proud moment for the company was in 1989 where we and Paul in particular were recognised by the NHBC pride in the job awards where we won the UK Supreme Winner, Central Region Winner & Top 100 in the small builder's category for the development of luxury homes in Sibson, Leicestershire. Soon after winning the award we were hit by the 1990 recession which proved to be a particularly tough time, it was only by the grace of God that we withstood. Since then we have learnt a number of valuable lessons and gained much experience.

We have gone on to do a number of residential developments including one for Bromford Housing Group where we constructed their first 'excellent' eco rated homes and won Partner of the Year 05/06. Wembrook Builders has embraced a number of commercial projects either taking the role of the main contactor or as a sub contactor, including substantial packages at Corley Services on the M6 and the Touchwood Shopping Centre, Solihull; we were awarded additional works on both contracts. More recently we constructed the £1.6M Oasis medical Centre in Coventry as the main contractor.

Going onwards times are tough but we hope to continue prove ourselves as competitive and reliable, whilst maintaining our reputation for high standards. We have currently just finished work at Henley College, Coventry and started on large extensions for King Edward VI College and Oldbury Grange Nursing Home. We pray that Wembrook will continue through these tough economic times whilst seeking to maintain and build on our reputation as quality builders.

Meet the Directors

John Gudgeon (MD)

John originally trained as a carpenter and joiner and has extensive experience working on site. He has a wealth of technical and practical experience, in all aspects of construction, but particularly in structural elements and roofing. Today, John will often be the first team member clients meet. His role is to complete quotations, estimates, bill of quantities, contract preparation, valuations and work through any necessary design issues. John will keep involved in the sites throughout, making weekly visits and overseeing all health and safety matters.

Tom Gudgeon

Tom also spent many years and gained great experience working on site. Today, Tom bases himself in the office, carrying out the administration alongside John. He is responsible for the accounts and legal documentation side of the business. He takes great pride in the company and makes careful effort to keep up-to-date with the progress of each working site.

Paul Gudgeon

Plumbing and heating is a big part of the company's work and an area where evident changes have taken effect. This is most noticeable in boilers and other energy means, environmental products and practices. Paul, as the trained plumbing and heating engineer, has embraced the latest technology, methods and ideologies. He is a great asset to the company, has an admirable understanding of plumbing, its progress and its history. His role now allows him to design plumbing systems which consciously emphasise the use of solar panels and energy efficient systems. Working on site for numerous years allowed Paul to acquire the skills to turn his hand to most construction elements. He boasts excellent lead skills and is extremely capable of welding and constructing challenging lead projects. Paul has completed the ‘Site Management Safety Training Scheme for Construction and Civil Engineering’. He has managed many sites, and due to his precise attention to detail, has won the ‘Pride In The Job’ awards with the NHBC, securing the ‘Top 100’ twice, and both the ‘Midlands Region’ and the ‘National Award’ once.

Tim Gudgeon

Tim operates as the main site supervisor. Starting out as a substructure and civil engineer, Tim has grown into a successful site manager displaying knowledge in all aspects of the building trade. By demonstrating a great commitment to each of his projects, and by initiating gentle but demanding progress, Tim never fails to impress. Very good communication and organisation skills help him to multi-task and keep control of numerous trades that work on site. He is able to manage and control the attendance, timing, quality and safety of every worker on site, despite the pressured environment. He excels at completing large jobs quickly, on time and on budget.
